When Emma Stone won, it was because her performance was so authentic.

The single significant upset of the Sunday night Oscars happened late in the show ,

when Emma Stone unexpectedly won the best actress prize, beating off predictions that Lily Gladstone would win.

Gladstone was set to become the first Native American actress to win an Academy Award, so Stone,

who won her first Oscar in 2017 for her role in "La La Land," appeared as shocked as everyone to be on stage instead of Gladstone.

(Gladstone had received numerous pre-Oscar awards, such as a SAG Award; both actresses ,

were Golden Globe winners.) Few, however, would contest Stone's portrayal in "Poor Things,"

a daring act of dedication and metamorphosis, for which she was nominated. In the role of Bella Baxter,

a young lady embracing her identity with unbridled curiosity and daring abandon, Stone gave one of her most daring and outrageous performances to date.Furthermore,
