Lainey Wilson leads 2023 CMA Awards nominations (again) with near-record-breaking 9 nod

The 2023 Country Music Association Awards nominations feature nine categories, with Lainey Wilson leading the pack for the second year in a row.

And as the first musician to top the CMA nominations list in their first two ballot appearances,

the "Heart Like a Truck" singer created history. Her nine nominations tied her with Miranda Lambert and Merle Haggard for second most in a single year. With ten nominations in 2002, Alan Jackson set the record.

Wilson defeated Carly Pearce ("What He Didn't Do"), Carrie Underwood ("Ghost Story"), Gabby Barrett ("Pick Me Up"),

Wilson became the fourth artist in the history of the CMAs to receive six nominations in her debut year last year, after Glen Campbell, Brad Paisley, and Kacey Musgraves.

Entertainer of the Year is one of her nominations, which she described as "absolutely surreal."

Her competitors in that area include heavy hitters Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood,

and recent hitmaker Morgan Wallen. Combs' cover of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" topped the charts this year.
