As Legendary's Monsterverse Franchise Roars Past $2 Billion—Easter Box Office Preview—"Godzilla x Kong" Will Bunny Hop to $135M Global Opening

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, with 63 overseas markets and 3,850 cinemas US, is projected to dominate the box office with a $135M debut.

Warner Bros. released Godzilla vs. Kong for Easter 2021, bringing audiences back to movies after a year's Covid quarantine, so they stuck to that schedule.

Despite a dip on HBO Max, Godzilla vs. Kong grossed $48M in five days in the US.

New Empire will be the Monsterverse's third-biggest US opener after Godzilla ($93.1M) and Kong: Skull Island ($61M) if these numbers hold up.

The U.S. and Canada previews begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, and New Empire will have all the nuclear powers of premium ticket upcharges, including Imax, PLF, 4DX, ScreenX, DBox, etc.

Legendary/Warner Bros.' Dune: Part Two will keep certain Imax screens this holiday weekend.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire cost $135M before P&A, with Legendary funding 75% and Warner Bros 25%.

Adam Wingard's second Godzilla-Kong film following 2021 opens in Spain and Korea on Wednesday, followed by Italy, Australia, and Latin America on Thursday.
