49ers owner: 'It's a good problem' about mega-deal for Brock Purdy

The San Francisco 49ers are at a sweet spot in the league

The Niners' seventh-round rookie quarterback has played All-Pro, and his small contract has allowed them to create one of the NFL's greatest rosters around him.

That may not last long. Brock Purdy will become extension-eligible next offseason if he plays like he did in his first two seasons.

He will deserve a huge contract. That doesn't concern 49ers owner Jed York.

"It's a good problem when your quarterback is one of the highest-paid guys on your team and in the league," York told The Mercury News at the NFL's annual owners meetings.

York appears to understand that good quarterbacks do this. Not how excellent a QB is compared to others in the league.

Because quarterbacks are so crucial, whoever is up for a deal next has a lot of leverage.

This is the market. York replied without trepidation that Brock would seek for something unprecedented.
